Blind Signal is very pleased to be invited to curate an artist exchange in the city of Hanoi. This project is a collaboration with Undecided Productions who facilitated the organisations and encounters with the various partners in the city of Hanoi and supported by the Goethe Institut Hanoï and the Institut Français Vietnam.

Blind Signal VTNM — GRMN aims to investigate the diversities and wide range of sonic practice through creations with multiple geographies.                        

Artistic exchange is a phenomenal act that allows for the open sharing of creativity between different realities. The main goal of the project is to offer a bridge linking Berlin-based and Vietnamese artists that will benefit both sides. Hoping that interesting new works might emerge and continue beyond this specific event.  

The first stop is the city of Hà Nội.

Six solo artists and musicians are invited to collaborate during seven days residency, including public workshops and live performances.

Antye Greie-Ripatti aka AGF aka Poemproducer, Gil Delindro, Hương DonNa, Julius Holtz, Lương Huệ Trinh, Linh Hà will be challenged by a week of collective work, willing to create a common ground in the exploration of sonic arts, promoting immersive group listening experiences fully stimulate by noise, silence, frequency, transmission, performativities of media objects, resonance and acoustics, while remaining sensitive to the individual complexities and poetics of each identities.

After one week of residency, the artists will offer several sound pieces that will be presented in the premises of the Goethe Institute of Hanoi. This project is supported by the Goethe Institute of Hanoi and the French Alliance Hanoi.

The project will then fly to BERLIN.
Berlin, being the world’s central for Contemporary New Music and sound art and the creative cradle of Blind Signal.                                    

To the six artists originally selected, an additional three German based artists will be invited in yet another round of collaborations: in order to extend the existing collaborative performances further and ad to the overall experience of all selected artists and outcomes. This project is supported by Musikfonds.

Above all we understand that project location has an undeniable impact on artistic creation. Therefore, this residency will offer to artists an atypical crossing space where their experience can be expanded, both for Hanoi and Berlin residents. Blind Signal is a celebration of Sound art as a possible platform for connection between distant geographies, communities and cultural backgrounds.

We intend to be part of such a movement in an unlimited Globe, by inviting artists to consider their site specific challenges and include spacial and acoustic surroundings to develop new bodies of work .

This project is evolutionary, open to the artistic diversity of the musicians involved, as well as the expanded disciplines that result from Sound practice, from field recording to acoustics, digital technologies, sculptural materiality, composition, time, space and political social cultural geographies.

VTNM - GRMN, means Vietnam - Germany. The title uses an English lexeme, the project's connecting language. The vowels have been eaten in the title because in the four main official languages in which this project takes place (German, Vietnamese, French and English) their writings are clearly differentiated by a nice variation of accent, unlike consonants taking all a similar form.
